Tad is the smallest tadpole in the whole pond. She wriggles twice as hard to keep up with her tadbrothers and tadsisters, but they are growing legs and losing tails while Tad still seems to be waiting for her turn.
 
Waiting would be easier if Big Blub were not lurking in the dark water below. The old, hungry fish is said to gobble tadpoles, and as Tad’s siblings begin disappearing from the pond, even a brave little almost-frog has reason to worry.
 
When Tad is finally left alone and Big Blub comes searching, being small will not stop her from being clever, determined and astonishingly quick. One great burst towards the surface may reveal that Tad has been growing in her own time all along.
