Cuttie Terms and Conditions

Reader Discovery Readings and Book Recommendations

These terms explain what Cuttie offers, how you may use it, and the responsibilities and legal rights of you and Wonder Wing. Cuttie is a playful reading discovery experience. Your statutory rights remain protected throughout these terms.

1. About Cuttie and these terms

1.1 Cuttie is a book discovery and entertainment service provided by Wonder Wing Limited, a company registered in Scotland under number SC857391 ("Wonder Wing", "we", "us" or "our"). Our business and correspondence address is 4 River Don Crescent, Bucksburn, Aberdeen, Scotland, AB21 9FP. You can contact us at hello@wonderwing.co.uk.

1.2 Cuttie offers interactive questions, playful reader descriptions, book recommendations and related conversations intended to encourage curiosity and enjoyment around reading. In these terms, the "Service" means these Cuttie features, including the Cuttie and Cuttie Search pages and associated saved readings. "You" means the person using the Service or arranging its use for a child.

1.3 These terms apply specifically to Cuttie alongside our general website Terms and Conditions at https://www.wonderwing.co.uk/terms-and-conditions. If there is a conflict about Cuttie, these Cuttie terms take precedence, including on account responsibility, suspension, changes, complaints and liability. Separate purchases remain subject to the applicable sales terms. Nothing in either set of terms overrides rights that the law does not allow us to restrict.

1.4 Please read these terms before starting a reading or using Cuttie chat. Where we ask you to accept them, your acceptance forms the agreement for that use. We will make the applicable terms available before acceptance. You can save a copy. If you do not agree, do not start or continue the relevant feature. Our Privacy Notice explains personal information handling; accepting these terms is not blanket consent to data processing.

2. What a Cuttie reading means

2.1 A Cuttie "reading", "reader type" or "reader vibe" is a playful interpretation of answers supplied during a particular interaction. These expressions describe the entertainment experience. Whimsical names and characters are creative parts of that experience and do not have a hidden diagnostic meaning.

2.2 Reader types are descriptive labels, rather than scientifically established classifications or clinically validated assessment results. They do not establish a person's identity, intelligence, abilities, potential or permanent preferences. A reading is not a comprehensive profile of a person.

2.3 Results depend on the answers given, the route selected and the information available to the Service. Choosing an approximate answer, answering differently on another occasion or changes to the Service may produce a different description or recommendation. When someone answers for another person, the result reflects the answers supplied by that person; it is not a direct assessment of the reader.

2.4 You are welcome to disagree with a description, decline a recommendation or explore another direction. A reading should not be used to label a child, restrict the books they may enjoy, or make consequential decisions about education, health, care, employment or access to support.

3. Scope and limitations of reading guidance

3.1 Cuttie does not provide medical, psychological, therapeutic or specialist educational assessment, diagnosis or treatment. It does not determine reading age, literacy attainment, developmental stage or eligibility for educational support, and cannot establish or rule out dyslexia, autism, ADHD, a learning disability or any other condition.

3.2 General reading suggestions and encouragement are offered for exploration. References to interests, learning, attention, emotions, disability or accessibility do not turn a response into professional advice. Where individual advice is needed, consult an appropriately qualified professional.

3.3 Our aim is to make discovering books enjoyable and convenient. We do not promise that using Cuttie or following a recommendation will improve reading skills, confidence, concentration, wellbeing or any other particular outcome. These limits describe the purpose of the Service and do not reduce our duty to provide it with reasonable care and skill.

4. Automated and AI augumented responses

4.1 Cuttie uses authored software and original content informed by Wonder Wing's approach to book discovery and its founder's knowledge. Some features also use artificial intelligence. Its conversational personality, including any assistant voice, is a digital character, not a human adviser. Friendly language does not mean a person is reviewing or replying to each message.

4.2 Automated and AI-augmented responses can make mistakes, misunderstand a request, omit relevant information, or sound confident without being correct. They can reflect limitations or biases in the information and technology used. Responses may vary, and similar wording may be provided to different users. We do not guarantee that every response will be accurate, complete or unique.

4.3 Cuttie chat is intended for questions about Cuttie readings, related book recommendations and general encouragement within that context. It may decline or redirect a request, ask for essential clarification, or provide an authored response when AI augmentation is unavailable or a request cannot appropriately be processed. A response outside the intended scope should not be treated as specialist advice.

4.4 Check information that matters to your decision against the relevant product listing, publisher information or an appropriate professional source. Report inaccurate, unsuitable or concerning responses using section 18. This request to check important information does not excuse misleading information or remove our responsibilities under law.

4.5 Chat responses do not themselves place orders, change account settings, approve refunds or create special discounts. Use the designated account, checkout or customer support process for those actions. This does not remove any right arising from a statement for which we are legally responsible.

5. Book recommendations and purchases

5.1 Recommendations are suggestions to consider. We do not guarantee that a particular reader will enjoy, finish or benefit from a recommended book. You remain free to choose a different book or make no purchase.

5.2 Recommendations are drawn from the catalogue and information available to Cuttie. They are not a comprehensive or independent comparison of every book on the market. They may include books sold by Wonder Wing, and we have a commercial interest in sales made through our shop. A recommendation is not an endorsement of Cuttie by the book's author or publisher.

5.3 Our recommendations currently cover children's books and young adult novels. Adults may explore their reader type, but adult book recommendations are not currently offered. Selecting an age band helps guide the experience; it does not certify that every recommended book is suitable for every person in that band.

5.4 We take reasonable care with book information. Age bands, descriptions, themes and content notes provide general guidance and may not cover every preference or sensitivity. The absence of a warning does not confirm the absence of potentially upsetting content. Review the relevant book details before choosing, buying or sharing a title, and contact us if you need clarification.

5.5 Availability and prices may change. Check the product details and the price shown at checkout before ordering. A chat response is not an order confirmation. Purchases, delivery, cancellations and returns are governed by the applicable sales terms and your statutory rights; these Cuttie terms do not narrow those rights.

6. Using Cuttie for or with children

6.1 When completing a reading for a baby or child, answer using your knowledge of their interests and responses. Consider what they enjoy rather than treating the answer options as a test they need to pass. Their interests may differ across settings or change over time.

6.2 Children should use Cuttie with suitable adult guidance. A parent or guardian should review these terms, help explain the experience in language the child understands, and review responses and recommended books before sharing them. Consider the child's age, communication, understanding and individual circumstances. A carer acting on a parent's behalf should have appropriate authority to do so.

6.3 The age bands in the reading experience describe the reader whose interests are being explored. They do not grant permission to create an independent account or override the account eligibility rules shown at registration and in our general website terms. Where a child cannot hold an eligible account, any account-based use must be arranged and supervised through an eligible parent or guardian's account. Do not enter a false age to obtain access.

6.4 Adult involvement does not transfer Wonder Wing's legal responsibilities to a parent or carer, make an adult automatically liable for every action by a child, or remove a child's own privacy and other legal rights.

7. Accounts and security

7.1 Some features may require an account, sign-in, verification or another access condition explained before use. Provide accurate registration details in the designated fields, use an email address you control or are authorised to use, and keep the details needed for account communications up to date. Do not impersonate someone else or create accounts to evade limits or restrictions.

7.2 Take reasonable steps to keep your account secure, including protecting passwords and signing out on shared devices. Do not sell, transfer or give unrelated people access to your account. This does not prevent the supervised family use described in section 6. Tell us promptly if you suspect unauthorised access, and never send us your password.

7.3 You are responsible for your own actions, activity undertaken under your account, and for taking the reasonable precautions described here. You are not automatically responsible for all unauthorised activity simply because it occurs through your account. Responsibility for any loss depends on the circumstances and applicable law, including our own security obligations.

8. Personal information and privacy

8.1 Keep identifying and confidential information out of quiz free-text answers and chat. Do not include full names, addresses, school names, contact details, passwords, payment information, medical records or assessment reports. Use broad, non-identifying descriptions of reading interests wherever possible. Enter account and email information only in the designated fields.

8.2 Only provide information about another person where you are entitled to do so. Being a parent or carer does not remove a child's rights over their information. Do not submit information you are required to keep confidential or details that are unnecessary for the reading experience.

8.3 Personal information connected with Cuttie is handled under applicable data protection law and our Privacy Notice at https://www.wonderwing.co.uk/privacy-policy. Privacy information should be read alongside these terms. A contractual permission to use submitted material is not, by itself, a lawful basis for every use of personal information.

8.4 Accepting these terms does not waive data protection rights or constitute blanket consent to unrelated marketing. Service messages and marketing choices are separate. You can contact us about access, correction, deletion or other privacy rights using section 18; the rights that apply depend on the relevant law and circumstances.

8.5 Expiry of a saved reading from your account is not necessarily the deletion of every related record which relates to the use of the wider Wonder Wing service. Retention and deletion of personal information are governed by applicable law and the Privacy Notice. The instruction to avoid sensitive information does not remove our obligations if personal information is submitted.

9. Your submissions and feedback

9.1 You keep any rights you hold in original material you submit. You give us permission to host, process, transmit and reproduce that material only as reasonably necessary to provide your reading and chat, operate and secure the Service, respond to support requests and meet legal obligations. Service providers may carry out those activities for us. This permission lasts only for those purposes and any lawful retention period, and remains subject to section 8.

9.2 You must have the rights or authority needed to submit the material for those purposes. This is not a transfer of ownership of your information and does not give us an unrestricted right to publish private chats, use your identity in advertising or use personal information for unrelated purposes.

9.3 If you voluntarily send suggestions or feedback, you allow us to use them to improve Cuttie without an obligation to implement them or pay for them, unless we agree otherwise with you. This does not authorise publication of identifiable feedback as a testimonial without an appropriate separate permission.

10. Intellectual property and permitted use

10.1 Rights in Cuttie's software, branding, digital character, artwork, original questions and written materials, and protected collections of content belong to Wonder Wing or its licensors. Book covers, extracts, titles and other third-party materials remain subject to their owners' rights. Using the Service does not transfer ownership of these rights to you.

10.2 We give you a non-exclusive permission to use Cuttie for personal, non-commercial reading discovery in accordance with these terms. You may save, print and share your own reading for those purposes, while respecting other people's privacy and third-party rights. You may share genuine reviews and reasonable quotations permitted by law.

10.3 Except with our permission or where the law allows it, you must not commercially reproduce, resell, distribute, license or exploit protected Cuttie materials, create a competing product by copying them, or present your use as sponsored or approved by Wonder Wing. Do not remove rights notices or use our branding in a misleading way.

10.4 These restrictions do not prevent lawful quotation, criticism, accessibility adaptations or other uses the law permits. We do not claim exclusive ownership of every automated response where no such right exists. The permission to use a lawfully saved reading personally does not end merely because you stop using Cuttie.

11. Acceptable use

11.1 Use the Service lawfully and respect the privacy, safety and rights of others. Do not submit unlawful material, threats, targeted harassment, exploitative content or material that infringes another person's rights. An honest question about a difficult topic in a book, or criticism of Cuttie, is not prohibited merely because it is uncomfortable or negative.

11.2 Do not obtain or attempt to obtain unauthorised access to accounts, personal information, non-public software or confidential materials. Do not introduce malware, disrupt the Service, overload its systems or interfere with other people's access.

11.3 Do not bypass access controls, security measures, usage limits or payment requirements, including by creating multiple accounts for that purpose. Do not manipulate the chat to obtain another person's data or non-public information.

11.4 Without permission, do not use automated tools to harvest Cuttie's protected content, systematically reproduce its content collection or submit requests at a scale that interferes with the Service. This does not prohibit ordinary assistive technology, permitted search-engine indexing, or activities that the law expressly allows.

11.5 Do not use a Cuttie reading as an official assessment or misrepresent it as professional evidence about a person. If you report a security concern, describe the issue through our contact channel without accessing other people's data or causing further disruption. Our response to suspected misuse will follow section 16.

12. Beta status and technical availability

12.1 Cuttie is currently in beta and remains under development. Features may contain errors or experience interruptions, and the experience may change as we improve it. We will exercise reasonable care and skill in operating the Service and addressing problems brought to our attention.

12.2 We do not promise uninterrupted access, compatibility with every device or browser, or a particular response time unless we expressly agree otherwise. Access may be affected by maintenance, connectivity, capacity or service-provider problems. You are responsible for your own internet connection and normal network charges. We remain responsible for matters for which the law makes us responsible, including our choice and use of suppliers.

12.3 Where an event outside our reasonable control disrupts the Service, we will take reasonable steps to reduce its effects and restore access. We will explain significant disruption where reasonably practicable. Such an event does not remove rights to cancel, obtain a refund or receive another remedy where the law provides them.

12.4 External websites linked from the Service have their own terms and privacy arrangements. We do not control their content. Linking to a website does not endorse everything it contains, and this does not exclude responsibility for our own statements or conduct.

13. Usage limits and saved readings

13.1 Any applicable question limits, account requirements, feature restrictions and saved-reading expiry periods will be explained where the relevant feature is offered. Limits may differ between features or access arrangements. Changes affecting agreed access are subject to section 15.

13.2 Saved readings and chat displays are not a permanent archive. A displayed response may be replaced or disappear as part of the experience. Keep a personal copy of anything you wish to retain, where the feature allows this, and protect any copy that contains personal information.

13.3 We do not promise indefinite storage or recovery of material that has expired in accordance with a disclosed period. We will nevertheless exercise reasonable care in managing saved readings and honour any express storage commitment. Deletion, expiry or a request to keep a copy does not excuse a breach of our legal obligations.

14. Charges and future paid features

14.1 A feature presented as free will not incur a Cuttie access charge simply because you use it. A recommendation does not commit you to buying a book. Any future charge, subscription or paid feature will be clearly explained, with the price, relevant billing terms and your cancellation rights, before you choose to purchase it.

14.2 We will obtain your agreement before paid access begins. We will not automatically convert free use into a paid subscription or charge you retrospectively for a feature supplied free. Continued free use alone is not agreement to pay.

14.3 If paid access is introduced, the applicable purchase terms will explain the benefits, duration, renewal arrangements and any statutory cancellation process. These terms do not themselves waive any cooling-off right or authorise early performance that requires separate consent. Beta status does not allow us to withhold an agreed paid benefit without an appropriate remedy.

15. Changes to the Service and these terms

15.1 We may make reasonable changes for identified reasons, such as correcting errors, improving accessibility or functionality, maintaining security, complying with law, or responding to changes in the technology or catalogue on which Cuttie depends. We will consider the effect on users and will not use this clause to remove an agreed core paid benefit without the required consent or an appropriate remedy.

15.2 We may also need to discontinue a free feature or the free Service if it is no longer reasonably sustainable, or if a legal, safety or technical issue makes continued operation impracticable. We will give reasonable advance notice of a material reduction or withdrawal and, where reasonably practicable, an opportunity to save readings before access ends.

15.3 For material changes to these terms or agreed access, we will explain the change, its reason and when it takes effect, and bring it to affected users' attention in advance through an appropriate service notice or available contact channel. The notice period will be reasonable in light of the change. Urgent legal or security action may require shorter notice; we will explain it as soon as reasonably practicable.

15.4 We will publish a revision date and seek fresh agreement where required. Changes will not retrospectively remove rights or claims you have already acquired. You may stop using Cuttie if you do not accept a change. If a change materially disadvantages you under an existing paid arrangement, you may end the affected arrangement without an additional cancellation charge and receive any refund or other remedy due by law, including for paid benefits we will no longer provide.

16. Suspension and ending access

16.1 We may restrict or suspend the affected part of Cuttie where we have reasonable grounds to believe there is a material breach of these terms, unauthorised account use, a serious security or safety risk, or a legal requirement to act. We may end access for a serious breach, repeated breaches after warning, or a problem that cannot reasonably be resolved. Action will be proportionate to the issue.

16.2 Where appropriate, we will explain the reason, provide a warning and allow a reasonable opportunity to correct the problem. We may act immediately where delay would create a material risk, enable unlawful activity or breach a legal duty. We may withhold details where disclosure would compromise security, another person's privacy or a legal obligation.

16.3 You can ask us to review a restriction using section 18. We will consider the information you provide and restore access where the restriction was mistaken or the reason no longer applies. A good-faith complaint or negative review is not, by itself, a reason to restrict access or unrelated purchases.

16.4 You may stop using Cuttie at any time and contact us about closing your account or exercising privacy rights. Ending access does not automatically delete every related record or affect separate purchases. It does not remove accrued rights, lawful personal use of saved readings, or any refund or remedy to which you are entitled. We will not impose an arbitrary penalty or automatically forfeit paid benefits for a breach.

17. Our responsibility and your legal rights

17.1 We remain responsible for supplying the Service with reasonable care and skill and for any other obligations imposed by applicable law. Your statutory consumer rights and data protection rights are unaffected. No limitation in these terms excuses misleading descriptions, failure to provide an agreed service, or another breach of rights that cannot lawfully be restricted.

17.2 Subject to those rights, we are responsible for loss or damage that is a reasonably foreseeable result of our breach of these terms or failure to exercise reasonable care and skill. Loss is foreseeable if it is an obvious consequence or if, when the agreement was made, both you and we knew it might happen. We are not responsible for loss that is not caused by our breach or fault, or that was not reasonably foreseeable.

17.3 Cuttie is provided for personal, non-commercial use. Subject to applicable law, we are not responsible for business losses arising from use for business purposes, such as lost business profits or business opportunities. This does not exclude foreseeable personal loss for which we are legally responsible.

17.4 Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or any other liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or restricted. We do not apply a zero-liability rule simply because a feature is free.

17.5 Where the law gives you a right to have a problem put right, to a price reduction or refund, to compensation or to another remedy, these terms do not take it away. A recommendation to check information, supervise a child, secure an account or save a reading does not transfer our own legal responsibilities to you.

18. Contact and complaints

18.1 For questions, complaints, inaccurate or unsuitable responses, account concerns or requests to review a restriction, email hello@wonderwing.co.uk or write to Wonder Wing Limited, 4 River Don Crescent, Bucksburn, Aberdeen, Scotland, AB21 9FP. Please identify Cuttie and describe what happened. A date, page name or copy of the relevant response can help; remove unnecessary personal information and never send passwords.

18.2 We will acknowledge and investigate complaints within a reasonable time, keep you informed where further investigation is needed, and explain our response and any proposed remedy. Making a complaint does not prevent you from exercising your legal rights, contacting a relevant regulator or seeking independent advice.

18.3 If a complaint remains unresolved, we will provide information about any alternative dispute resolution process we are required to identify and whether we are obliged or willing to use it. These terms do not require compulsory arbitration or prevent you from bringing a court claim. You can also raise a data protection concern with the Information Commissioner's Office at https://ico.org.uk.

19. Governing law and courts

19.1 These terms are governed by Scots law. If you are a consumer, this does not take away the protection of any mandatory laws of the country where you normally live that apply to your contract with us.

19.2 The Scottish courts have non-exclusive jurisdiction. If you live elsewhere in the United Kingdom, you may also bring a claim in the courts of the part of the United Kingdom where you live. Any other right you have under applicable law to use your local courts is preserved. Nothing requires you to use an overseas court or give up a right to a legal remedy.

20. Other terms of the agreement

20.1 If a provision is found unlawful or unenforceable, it will not bind you to that extent. The remaining provisions continue only so far as they can lawfully operate.

20.2 A delay by either party in enforcing a right does not, by itself, waive that right. We may transfer the agreement to another organisation as part of a genuine business transfer or reorganisation only where this does not reduce your contractual rights or protections. We will notify affected users and explain any material effect. Personal information remains subject to data protection law.

20.3 Your account is personal and cannot be sold or transferred. This does not restrict any transfer of a legal claim that the law permits. No other person is given a contractual right to enforce these terms unless expressly stated or required by law; this does not remove a child's or another person's independent statutory rights.

20.4 Provisions intended to apply after use ends, including lawful use of saved readings, intellectual property protection, accrued claims and dispute provisions, continue for that purpose. These terms do not override a binding statement or specific commitment we have made to you where the law requires us to honour it.
