Cookie Policy

This policy explains how Wonder Wing Limited ("Wonder Wing", "we", "us" or "our") uses cookies and similar technologies on wonderwing.co.uk, what they do and how you can control optional uses.

1 About this policy

  • This policy covers our website and its shopping, account, subscription, booking, community and book-discovery features, including Libbie™ and Cuttie™. The technologies involved depend on the pages you visit, the features you use and your choices.

  • Read it alongside our Privacy Policy, which explains how we use personal information, who receives it, retention, international processing and your data protection rights.

2 Cookies and similar technologies

  • Cookies are small files stored on your computer, phone or other device when you use a website. They can help the site recognise a browser, keep a secure session or remember a choice. A cookie may contain an identifier rather than your name; though that does not necessarily make the information anonymous.

  • Similar technologies include local storage and session storage in your browser, pixels, and scripts or tags that store information on a device or read information from it. References to cookies in this policy include these technologies where relevant. The same privacy considerations may apply even where a service does not use a traditional cookie.

  • Some technologies operate through our own website domain. Others involve a provider, such as Wix or Google. Both the purpose and the organisation using the information matter.

3 Why we use these technologies

  • Essential functions

    • Essential technologies enable a service you request or keep it secure. They can support page delivery, fraud prevention, sign-in, your basket and checkout, or remembering your cookie decision. They may also maintain the session needed for a booking or reading feature you choose. We use them without optional-cookie consent only to the extent that a legal exception applies.

    • A technology is not essential simply because it is useful to our business or supplied by our website provider. Optional audience measurement, advertising and non-essential experiments are subject to the relevant choices below.

  • Functional preferences

    • Optional functional technologies can remember preferences or support additional features. Where a choice goes beyond what is necessary for the feature you request, we ask for your consent before storing or accessing the information. If you decline, you may need to select a preference again or leave an optional feature inactive.

  • Analytics

    • Analytics help us understand visits, navigation and the use of our services so we can improve the website. Our site includes Google Analytics, and Wix may supply measurement tools. We ask for consent for optional analytics. Security records and other processing genuinely needed to operate the service are assessed separately; we do not use that distinction to bypass your analytics choice.

  • Marketing and social features

    • Where enabled, optional marketing technologies may measure a campaign or help show relevant advertising. Optional social or embedded features may also allow another provider to receive information. We identify the relevant service and purpose before seeking consent. These uses are not made compulsory simply because you shop with us or request a recommendation.

    • Accepting cookies does not sign you up to our newsletter. Email marketing choices and any permissions needed for it are separate.

4 Choosing and changing your preferences

  • Our consent controls let you accept optional categories, reject optional categories or manage your selection. Optional uses requiring consent remain off unless you make an affirmative choice. Continuing to browse, closing a banner or accepting our Terms and Conditions does not, by itself, give that consent.

  • Use the Cookie settings control to reopen your preferences and change or withdraw an optional choice. You can refuse optional analytics and marketing while continuing to browse, shop and request our core services. Essential technologies remain available for the services you choose.

  • Withdrawal stops future optional storage or access covered by that choice. It does not make earlier lawful processing unlawful or automatically erase information already held in our systems. Existing cookies may remain on your device until they expire or you delete them; we must still respect your changed choice when deciding whether to access them.

  • Preferences may need to be set separately on another browser or device. Clearing browser data can also remove the record of your decision. We may ask again where necessary, including when an intended use changes.

  • Your browser settings can delete cookies and stored site data or limit future storage. Blocking all cookies may interrupt sign-in, baskets, checkout or reading progress. Browser controls complement our consent controls; they do not replace our responsibility to obtain consent where required. If you cannot access the controls, contact support@wonderwing.co.uk.

5 Platform cookies and service details

  • Wix hosts our website. The following table describes the standard platform cookies and identifiers in Wix’s published information, together with Google Analytics cookies relevant to our Google integration. A listed item may be used only for a particular feature, session or browser; it is not a statement that every item is set on every visit.

  • The periods below are provider defaults. Browser restrictions or service configuration may produce a different effective lifetime. Alongside this table, the service details in Cookie settings explain the technologies enabled for this website, their providers, purposes, configured durations and the choice or exception that applies. Those details form part of this policy.

  • An asterisk indicates that the cookie name may include additional characters. “Session” normally means the browser session; browser session-restoration settings can affect when it ends.

    • In particular, measurement and experimentation must be assessed by their actual purpose. Optional analytics, including Google Analytics cookies, require the corresponding consent under our approach.

    • Provider information: Wix cookies and Google Analytics cookies.

      • _ga Google Analytics                                    Distinguishes visitors for measurement.     2 years

      • _ga_<container-id>   Google Analytics     Maintains analytics session information.   2 years

6 Reading features and saved progress

  • Libbie, Cuttie and other features may use browser storage to maintain a requested interaction, remember a selection or resume progress. Necessary feature storage is assessed separately from optional measurement or marketing; asking for a reading does not amount to consenting to advertising tracking.

  • Some information is stored in a browser and some may be held with an account or in our service systems. Deleting browser storage can remove local progress or preferences. It does not automatically delete a saved reading or account record held elsewhere. The Privacy Policy and relevant feature information explain those records and any access or retention periods.

7 Payments and other provider features

  • Checkout, bookings and other selected services may involve a separate provider identified when you use the feature. Security and transaction technologies may be necessary to fulfil that request. Optional marketing or measurement by the same provider requires its own appropriate information and choice; choosing a payment method is not blanket consent to unrelated tracking.

  • Where a video, social feature or other embedded service requires optional storage or access, we seek the relevant choice before enabling that use. The provider and purpose are identified in the consent information or beside the feature. A provider may have its own privacy notice and responsibilities; we remain responsible for the technologies we choose to place or enable on our site.

  • Following an ordinary link to another website takes you to that website’s own policies and controls. Your Wonder Wing preferences do not automatically apply there.

8 Storage periods and personal information

  • Session storage normally lasts for the relevant tab or browser session. Persistent cookies and local storage can remain after you close the browser, until an expiry or deletion rule applies or you clear the data. Local storage does not necessarily expire automatically. A permitted return visit may renew an item’s lifetime where the service is configured to do so.

  • The lifetime of an item on your device is different from how long a provider retains information it has already received. Our Privacy Policy explains retention and international processing. Cookie identifiers, device information and activity linked to an account can be personal information even without a full name.

  • You can exercise the data protection rights described in our Privacy Policy, including withdrawing consent where it is the basis for processing. Changing a cookie preference does not cancel an order, close an account or remove records we are lawfully required to retain.

9 Children and shared devices

  • Wonder Wing serves families and younger readers. Optional choices should remain separate from the reading activity a child requests. We consider children’s best interests when assessing technologies and do not treat an adult’s acceptance of cookies as unrestricted permission to profile a child or use the child’s information for marketing.

  • On a shared device, another person’s saved browser choices may still apply. Review the preferences when a child uses the site. Younger readers can ask a trusted adult for help with the controls or contact us if they are unsure. Adult guidance does not replace our responsibilities to protect children’s information.

10 Changes to this policy

  • We update this policy when our technologies, services or legal requirements change and show the latest revision date above. Where a new purpose or provider requires a fresh choice, we obtain it before that use begins. Publishing a revised policy does not, by itself, give us your consent.

11 Contact and concerns

  • For cookie questions, help with your choices or a privacy concern, email support@wonderwing.co.uk or write to Wonder Wing Limited, 4 River Don Crescent, Bucksburn, Aberdeen, Scotland AB21 9FP. You do not need an account to raise a concern.

  • Our Privacy Policy explains our privacy complaints procedure. You may also complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office, the UK data protection regulator, through the ICO complaints service. Your right to contact the regulator is unaffected by our own procedure.
