Willodeen

Willodeen by Katherine Applegate (Illustrated by Charles Santoso)

Eleven-year-old Willodeen loves every creature—especially the odd, overlooked, and misunderstood. In her village of Perchance, the strange screechers are considered pests, but Willodeen believes they’re vital to the balance of nature. When disaster strikes and the beloved hummingbears stop returning, she and her friend Connor uncover a secret that could save their home.

A beautifully written, hopeful story about courage, compassion, and the power of one voice to protect the natural world.
