My Babysitter Is a Robot

My Babysitter Is a Robot by Dave Cousins, illustrated by Catalina Echeverri

Twins Jake and Jess need a babysitter, so their inventor grandma builds one. Unfortunately, Robin is not exactly designed to blend in. He is clumsy, embarrassing, determined to enforce the rules and programmed to make the twins finish their homework. He may also have mistaken their dog for a baby.

Jake and Jess decide Robin has to go before everyone discovers that their unusual babysitter is a robot. There is just one complication: making their plan work means setting aside their constant sibling squabbles and cooperating with each other.

Dave Cousins combines family comedy, school-day embarrassment and playful robot chaos in a quick-moving first adventure. Catalina Echeverri’s lively illustrations appear throughout, breaking up the text and helping readers follow the characters, reactions and escalating mishaps.

Funny, warm and easy to enter, My Babysitter Is a Robot is an inviting illustrated chapter book for children beginning to read longer stories independently. It is the first of four books about Robin, Jake and Jess and provides the natural starting point for the series.
