The Mouse That Cancelled Christmas

The Mouse That Cancelled Christmas by Madeleine Cook, illustrated by Samara Hardy

Ever since a Christmas bauble landed on his head when he was little, Mouse has viewed the festive season with considerable suspicion. Pine needles are too sharp, wrapping paper could cause paper cuts, icing sugar makes everyone sneeze and even the Christmas songs seem full of questionable ideas.

Armed with his checklist, hard hat and high-visibility jacket, Mouse inspects the preparations in Jingle Bell Forest—and decides that Christmas may have to be cancelled altogether. Fortunately, his woodland friends are not ready to give up their celebrations quite so easily.

Samara Hardy’s wonderfully busy illustrations add expressive characters, playful lettering and small visual stories to explore on every page. Children can enjoy Mouse’s increasingly silly warnings while adults will recognise the affectionate health-and-safety humour running underneath.

A warm, funny Christmas picture book about worry, friendship, flexibility and rediscovering the pleasure of celebrating together.
