Sid's Big Fib
Sid’s Big Fib by Roo Parkin, illustrated by Irina Avgustinovich
Sid and Lulu love telling each other about their weekends—and each new story has to be bigger and more impressive than the last. When Lulu continually edges ahead, Sid announces that his dad has built a rocket and is travelling to the Moon.
It begins as one small fib, but keeping everyone convinced requires an alien, some moon rock and increasingly desperate improvisation. Before long, Sid’s story has become a great-big, cosmic muddle involving his baby sister and the whole school.
Roo Parkin explores bragging, competition and the pressure to impress with enormous humour rather than a heavy lecture. Irina Avgustinovich’s energetic illustrations capture every stage of Sid’s mounting predicament, creating a funny and relatable way to begin conversations about honesty, friendship and putting things right.
